Well Nevernight is one of the shittiest things I forced myself to read in a long time cause people said it gets better in book 2 cause the romance turn lesbian related, and no it didn't get better thanks to that, especialy with what happens in 3rd book and the writing is really weak, especially with the 1st person bullshit.

I'm gonna have to agree with this, Hiyodori's stuff is like 6/10 for me but Nevernight book 1 so far is genuinely 3/10 and I'm not even at the het yet (just finished part 1). I'm not sure even /u/ could save this shit.

With this I have some problem, yeah it's simple easy enjoyable read each new book, but the best book for me is still that one when they are in the school, and the rest I just read as loyal reader wanting to see what happens with the characters I enjoyed as leads from there.
So yeah if author will throw new books I'm gonna buy them, but there's no magic for me there anymore like it was at the beginning.

Hiyodori's stuff is a fucking snoozefest. Nevernight has some lows but it's got some excellent highs. The /u/ is fantastic, friends-to-enemies-to-lovers. The plot is great by /u/ fantasy standards. How much you enjoy Nevernight depends entirely on whether you like the prose, which can admittedly turn some people away, and how much you can stomach het.

I'm the wrong person to answer this because I think Gideon is overrated. But don't read it if you want yuri because there is basically none. Just give it a try for half an hour and keep going if you like the prose, because that seems to be what people like most about it.

Generally, if you want "pure yuri" you have to avoid western media because most western artists want to represent below average people. You often get obnoxious, ugly losers with a history of failed relationships. Meanwhile East Asian artists are more likely to create desirable characters who are hard working, competent, beautiful, and devoted only to one romantic interest.

Have you read the Simoun LNs? Apparently the story is slightly different from the anime, I've been meaning to read them for years but never got around to it

Not the best book I've ever read of this type (teenage enemies to lovers, coming of age), but it's been so long since I've read something I liked that I can recommend it if you're bored.
I like the whole butch troublemaker + ice princess redhead pairing, and while there are know-it-all side characters, overall they weren't annoying.
A few problems with the plot though, or things I disliked:
>the love interest making a move on MC felt a bit rushed, I think this book could've benefited from perspectives of both the MC and LI
>I suspended my disbelief as much as I could, but even then the ending felt too hallmark christmas-movie-happy-ending-y
>while the mom abandoning her plotline was resolved, I feel like it also kinda wasn't?
>Same with the bully boyfriend who's so stereotypical I kinda forgot his name. I'm both grateful that he didn't do some cliche revenge, but also felt like he was forgotten about. Book would've been better without him

I don't think my rating is gonna be useful since I haven't posted in months, but it's a 3.5/5 for me. Maybe it'd go lower if I had read anything good in recent times.

One funny coincidence, both books feature a character who wish to go to the same art college I haven't heard of before.

Anyways, I dropped this one half-way through

I really love the lesbian overtones in Thomas Lodge's Rosalynde (1590), the novel Shakespeare adapted into As You Like It. The basic premise is that two women fuck off to live in the woods together with one of them disguised as a page, then later on a peasant girl sees the fake page and falls madly in love with her, ranting about about how she's never been attracted to a man before but the page's beauty is somehow irresistible. They kiss and frequently visit each other to have "the discourse of many passions" and ultimately become engaged but sadly they don't get married in the end (because yeah, it's from 1590)

As You Like It itself has subtext but much less than the book

It's great, one of my favorite series ever, but if you only care about romance there isn't that much. It's more sci-fi fantasy with yuri flavor. Definitely worth a read if you just want a fun and good series, but if you specifically want romance there's stuff with a lot more. No het though.
