Is there a meaningful difference between kobo and amazon raws (in resolution etc.), or does it depend on the publisher? I'm used to kobo, but it'd be nice/convenient to buy from the yurinav sponsored links.

The resolution depends on the publisher and when it was released.
Amazon is capped at 1920 so publishers that offer higher resolutions will have worse quality.

Check the threads from a few months ago.
It's a bit more complicated than Kobo since you can't simply remove DRM in bulk so if you have larger batches you'll have to download everything with the viewer and open the dmme one file after the other.
You'll also need a VPN for purchasing manga that's not R18.
But they offer a nice combination of coupons, campaigns and general point back.

Is there any way to get higher res raws out of Comic Walker?
Ever since moving to CW, this series has been lower res (around 1800px vertical compared to around 2200px before), but now they're serving me ~1100px raws. I tried a few different download methods with the same result.
Anyone know if there's a way to get anything better out of them, of if I'm screwed with low res raws.

Which series are you talking about?
For series from magazines they now use the same resolution (1600 or 2048). The originals are 1826 or 1200 depending on the label.

The simple and unfortunate answer there is that the author is uploading straight up garbage even beyond the resolution, probably intentionally to own the pirates. 1100px raws can look a lot better than this, this has been raped to death with compression. Personally I’m just gonna drop this series until the tanks are out, while unlike a few years back my Japanese is good enough by now that I COULD read tiny smeared blob kanji that are legit undecipherable without context if I wanted to, it’s just no fun.

This wouldn’t be any different either back when we could get higher resolution from CW via the seiga exploit, you can’t get better stuff than what the author uploads. That would be insane 40kx80k pixel images in some cases (triggered decompression bomb safeties with my ripper, fun times), and rather shitty in other cases due to incompetence. I can’t remember a case where an author uploaded 15% quality jpegs or whatever this is though, that’s beyond incompetence.

Kobo is the optimal storefront in terms of quality vs ease of de-drm. The one problem it has is that sometimes publishers forget to publish updated versions of their books on Kobo, so you get things like Girl Friends still being in 1024p despite Amazon having it in 1536p, and probably also updated on Bookwalker too. It's rare, but it can sometimes happen.

Amazon re-compresses images even when they are within 1920p, so it's usually not the best option even for those releases.
For what it's worth, Houbunsha magazines are technically 1938p on Fuz, but more importantly don't have the nasty blur filter and release earlier than in other stores, so it's better to get those from Fuz. Houbunsha tankobons are the same everywhere though, 1920 (1600 for older books) and nasty blur.

I've done comparisons with Comic Valkyrie since that's free and 1920 and the images seem identical.
For magazines you sometimes have multiple resolutions from publishers, e.g. Kadokawa has 1600 and 2048. But if we're talking about Yurinavi referal linking and the only magazine they cover is Yurihime.

Kobo themselves can't update anything, the publishers upload those epubs to the stores. Kobo doesn't change what the publishers upload at all, other than adding kepub metadata to enable some features in their readers and apps.

They're one of the worst in that regard, which is incredibly ironic for a publisher who mostly publishes moe yonkoma with detailed character art. I will never stop being pissed at how Bilibili isn't afraid to release digital Houbunsha manga in like 4k sometimes while Houbunsha might have the same in 1600p blurred - or sometimes for older stuff super shitty scans of the paperback (I'm particularly looking at you, K-On).

Yeah, this is the one. Doing this intentionally as an anti-piracy measure would be a strange move, considering the raws uploaded to twitter are of considerably (but still not amazing) quality. With a bit of cleaning they look okay, but still nowhere near as good as the pixiv raws she used to upload.

As far as I can find, the volume releases aren't the best. Decent size at 2048px vertical, but .jpeg'd to hell. It's a nightmare working with the screentone gradients when they're compressed like this. I've bought from Bookwalker and Kobo, with the same raws essentially. Not sure I'm gonna get anything better.

Just good old Calibre (azw to zip conversion with no image re-processing, I've checked images in azw.res too, unpacked with my own script). I've last checked a few years ago though, so maybe they don't do that anymore, if you've checked more recently then I defer to your results. I'm also not using the app version that downloads KFX-ZIP, but maybe I should? I use Kobo so much that I haven't really bothered with Kindle except for those few titles that have newer versions there (and Kindle direct publishing stuff).

I only know of two ways. The first way is to use a Kindle eReader (2022 or similar; the 2025 eReader won't work). The second way is through Bluestacks. Both methods will give a .azw3 file (which is better than .kfx files) that you can input into Calibre.
Still, it's better to use Kobo.

If you've got Windows, it's easier to just install Kindle for PC 1.17, it downloads AZW and you can import them to Calibre directly from the My Kindle Content folder. Latest Calibre and dedrm plugin support some of the KFX files too, but I'm not sure if they support the latest KFX-ZIP that's split into multiple files. 1.17 always downloads AZW though so it shouldn't be an issue anyway while that version still works.

Kobo doesn't have Valkyrie so I used Kindle for that before switching to DMM.

ZenKowa chapter 18 summary.

Naoi pushes Kokoro off of her when she notices that Kurumi's on the floor. Kokoro panics since she didn't notice at all. Also, Kokoro left strangulation marks on Naoi's neck which makes her majorly freak out. She flees the house while Naoi helps the barely conscious Kurumi to the couch.

Kudou followed Kororo and tried to form an alliance to separate Kurumi and Naoi. Kokoro realizes Kudou's really off and runs away from her, but thinks Kurumi might end up just as bad as Kudou if left around Naoi.

At home, Kokoro is still freaking out and accidentally smacks her mother. Her mother points out that off Kokoro's been acting lately. This is the event that seems like it starts Kokoro's recovery. She's afraid that if she lets her feelings get the better of her, that she'll end up a messed up person like Kudou and Naoi.

The next night Kokoro is working with Akane and they have a talk outside. Akane tells Kokoro that back in middle school Kurumi came to her and told her she wanted to be alone, which is why she ditched their friend group. However, Kokoro being unaware of this, just kept following Kurumi everywhere. Kokoro wonders if she was a burden to Kurumi the entire time.

Cut back to Kurumi's house, where Naoi's taking care of her. Kurumi fully wakes up and worries about what happened to Naoi. Naoi then tells Kurumi what happened after she fainted. However, Kurumi is also worried about Kokoro, since she still considers her a friend despite what she did to her. Kurumi starts questioning Naoi about Kudou, to which Naoi dodges the subject by only telling her that they're acquaintances. Kurumi thinks to herself that's a lie, since Naoi wouldn't go to a hotel with someone she wasn't close to. Naoi encourages Kurumi to rest, while she picks up some stuff for her at shop. Later Kurumi notices that Kokoro left her parents utensils at her house, then Naoi comes in the kitchen and playfully offers Kurumi a snack.

I've said before that it's not even close to what I'd envisioned the story to look like should it continue, but just the fact that the manga continued at all makes me happy, and I am having a wonderful time.

Plus, Kurumi still referring to Kokoro as a "friend" seems to be ticking Naoi off. And Naoi won't admit her history with Kudou or their current deal, which just makes Kurumi sure there's somethng else going on between them despite Naoi denying as such this chapter. So, right now their trust in each other is shaky despite their feelings for each other.

Kudou intends to exploit this. Kokoro will either willingly comply at some point ,or her impulsive actions at the end of this chapter will end up being exploited by Kudou anyway.

Not necessarily, Gochiusa has progressed time 3 times and just now it's close to the end. Though Chimidori obviously isn't a series that can hold the premise for more than 3 or 4 volumes.

I think it'll be less than that. I get the feeling this chapter is setting the stage for upcoming drama that will likely be the focal point of volume 10. And I predict it will be heavy on Saki -- the fact that last chapter she mused that she's happy just to see Kanon happy already makes it feel like it's Saki's emotional calm before a storm.
Although Kanon's last line in ch 36.1 is rather curious and makes me wonder how that's going to come into play as well.

In any case, I predict volume 10 we'll get Saki's backstory, and the two getting together in volume 11. Do not screenshot this.

Hakuneko doesn't work for this one yet but this is what worked: downloaded python from python.org, then installed it, then used the getjump github to use pip and use the jget -b https://comic-seasons.com/episode/2550912965312602853 command there.
