Manio really messed up. She had all the necessary story elements to extend Kitakawa, but instead, she made an abortive attempt that resulted in almost a volume’s worth of chapters setting up plot points that were ultimately abandoned. I understand that the messiness of the last two volumes was due to the magazine pushing her to drag it out, with her eventually reaching a point where she essentially said, 'enough is enough!' But she could have easily kept going if she had been more driven. In fact, if she had laid all her cards on the table, she might have had enough leverage to demand a hiatus to properly plan everything out. Considering the volume sales and constant reprints, an 8+ volume Kitakawa would have been a surefire candidate for an anime adaptation, even with its content.

>>4371973 I know some men were turned off She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat though it doesn't perfectly fit your description. Any male interaction is somewhat rare, but if they get lines it's usually a literally faceless man who's saying some sexist shit that makes one of the female leads mad. The story definitely isn't a "all males are bad" story since it doesn't really bother with men that much in the first place, but of the men that are given speaking lines, they're often used as an in-your-face example of sexism/misogyny that the MCs have to deal with.

>>4371991 It's just a symptom of some of the flaws of that story in general. This might be because I'm reading it from a Western perspective but the way the story approaches a lot of things feels cliché or even uninformed. Like the MC discovering her sexuality from an online test and the recent arc about one of their new friends being nonbinary. A lot of it feels like it's being written by a baby Japanese feminist who's been fed Western ideas of sexuality and gender and is running with all of it without actually critically looking over the concepts first.

>>4371996 This is just the standard way the japanese usually go over stuff like this because it's just unrelatable to them, Wataoshi is the exactly the same thing by hilariously trying to paint Claire as the homophobe who needs to learn a lesson this chapter even though Rei is literally pestering her 24h sometimes in creepy ways and then justifying Rei is allowed to act this way because she can't express her sexuality in other ways.

>>4372004 >author made changes based on direct feedback Nip authors acutally do check which chapters and volumes get better responses, that's why breakout characters and genre shifts are common phenomena. However, it can be dangerous listening to the short-term demands of loud audience members since often times those people are short-sighted or their alternative suggestions are uninformed.
Anonymous
>>4372011 Do they? I often see them talking about making changes based on editor's suggestion, but never with readers' feedback. not sure how much of an effect the have, but i'd imagine its more influential for the authors that make shit up as they go along, or when a series is more popular than they realized, so they have to start expanding the series beyond its original scope (like how the watamote duo only expected to make a quick ~3 or so volume series, so they decided to expand the cast)

I think some of you are acting like every chapter has thousands of comments ditacting the direction the series should follow. In the series in question, My intern bullied me again, it gets to the point the author has 3 side couples and what frustrated readers is that the main couple was going somewhere to be interrupted again by chapters of the side couple couple, so it was decided he would first finish one couple before suddenly switching to another one.

>>4373181 It would apply to virgin female artists too. The point is that it would take virgin lesbians/bis one sexual experience to learn that lesbian sex doesn't immediately jump to scissoring whereas men will never even have that as an option and thus must solely rely on research. There are plenty of bad het manga made by virgin males/females out there too.
>>4373184 Experience is just one part of research/studying but an important part of it. A well-trained artist can paint a scene from Greece using only photo reference while a beginner artist could have grown up there their whole life but struggle to paint the scene due to lack of foundational skills. There's a reason why art teams on animated movies always take a trip out to the place the story takes place (whether it be Hawaii, Tokyo, etc.) as part of production. Basic drawing/writing skill + experience will always trump just experience or just skills. You can fudge a lot if you have good skills and good references but 20 years ago there wasn't much useful lesbian porn reference compared to today.
Anonymous
>>4373205 Cherish them.
>>4373208 I understand the part where you require immersion, the fact that we're on /u/ is enough immersion in my opinion. I think what you're trying to convey here is that most people who try and draw lesbian sex miss a build up before smashing clams therefore it doesn't appeal to the demographic that observes and is aware of these nuances.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>4373210 To add to that last part, another trait that most artists struggle to convey is a little bit of story telling, because it requires work and like hands they just hide or avoid it all together.
Anonymous
>>4373208 You are mixing different things, it made sense for 3D art teams to visit the place since they needed to model the whole thing, though nowadays they just hire photographers who specialize in creating virtual tours and so they can just see the whole thing from home.
Fucking is never going to help you draw better.
Anonymous
>>4373210 The whole "direct to smashing clams" thing is a lost phenomenon of the 00s to early 2010s, and isn't even done by male doujin artists these days. The focus on scissoring and dildos was a reflection of the uninformed/unexperienced making yuri porn back then, and a shift started happening once more women having actual sex with other women started making their own porn. Eventually the male artists saw this new reference material and were like "oh this shit is better/seems to be more in line with what lesbian sex is actually like than the stuff I was watching" and the fact that the most basic depiction of lesbian sex in yuri now is fingering is a testament to the growing influence of people with actual experience in the space. Before it was an imitation of what people thought lesbian sex was like (men/virgin women referencing porn directed by men and performed by usually straight women) and now it's a mix of a reflection of what lesbian sex is like (les/bi women) or an imitation of the stuff the lesbian/bis are putting out (anything written by men or straight/virgin women).
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>4373214 >and a shift started happening once more women having actual sex with other women started making their own porn. Thanks for clarifying that bit, and yes you are correct about illustrating what we think lesbian sex is instead of what it actually is as we clearly are not Women to know these nuances. With that being said, how would you approach learning how to convey lesbian sex if you were a newb?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>4373214 Anon, it only changed because readers asked for other stuff and so artists started drawing other stuff and slowly figuring it out. It wasn't because they started having lesbian sex lmao.
Anonymous
>>4373213 I'm not. Lilo and Stitch's team when to Hawaii, Kiki's Delivery Service team went to Sweden, Violet Evergarden's team went to Germany, and Shinkai's Your Name team went to Hida to better explore the settings for both writing and backgrounds. Often time these examples are limited to bigger budget productions like movies since it costs money to send people on research trips but it should be common sense that experience and first-hand research is the best reference for making artwork and research using someone else's experience is a workable second option.
