Also, do you really think knowing about kappa is "knowing shit about japanese mythology"? Kappa appear in japanese content since always, everybody knows about the water plate on their head, how they like cucumbers and obviously about shirikodama too. Watame asks where shirikodama are while looking at Polka. As everybody knows, since it's also in the name itself and that's the joke, they are in people's butt. That's a yuri positive since she's looking at Polka. In the subs they turned into "what are soul balls" so the subject is "balls" themselves and that's a yuri negative. Translator saw the chance and went for it, and it's not the first time he did it, making up sexual (het) innuendo in his made up subs.
And this is bad as a localization too, because localizations are supposed to change the context to make it clear to a different audience, but while everybody knows where shirikodama are (and if you don't know you can google it, it's not the translator's job to explain the joke to you), nobody, japanese or english, knows what "soul balls" are because they don't exist in english.
