>>3819893Sympho's already good for what it wants to be and works very well
It's all the nitpicking about some supah special writing or artsy fartsy shot composition and pacing nonsnesnse S1 apparently had that made me react like that
The people here acting like all the sequels are an insult to S1 seem to act like S1 was some masterpiece of artsy shit critics like (and most people don't care about at the level these people do) like pacing, writing or shot composition
The thing is S1 was full of death fake outs (the best way to ruin the stakes they're praising so much) to the point the opening scene of the entire season (Dead Hibiki. Miku visiting her grave) is a fucking lie, which is almost "suddenly revive everyone in the last episode (Mai-Hime)" tier
It's just I don't see
1) How S1 is so critically good or "objectively" better than later seasons (beyond being more focused because less characters. I'm willing to admit Sympho doesn't handle expanding the cast as well as it could)
2)How later seasons focusing on being over the top action show (even if flawed) is such a departure or insult to S1 (the main difference is as someone else said, abandoning the grimdark tone of S1 for that of an over the top herp/super robot show, but S1 was very confused about the tone, I feel. It already had that tone with some "edge" moments (Chris backstory and being molested by naked Fine, Kanade death, several death fake outs)
I just don't think later seasons of Sympho (again except GX which I do think went too far with Hibki not wanting to fight and everything involving her trash dad) are so utterly trash compared to S1 or why it's sad that fans like it as a cool show despite the flaws. Not every show has to stand up to whatever critical scrutiny is being used here
