>>3258085I don’t really get it because I see a ton of art and love for Luz. She may get less than Amity, but that’s largely because she isn’t the one with a confirmed and very visual crush. And because she’s the MC - the rival/love interest characters are usually more popular. Luz also just has a goofier and less commonly appealing design next to Amity’s generic hot girl design, but that isn’t tied to their race.
And yeah, I’ve seen some people with the opinion that Luz’s mom is toxic or whatever, but that’s far from being the common opinion of the fandom, most recognize she’s a caring mom. They also criticize the fact that some people think the Blight parents are hot and that they get fanart, but people are just intrigued by villain/asshole characters with clear influences on one or more of the main characters. I’m sure they’d get mostly the same treatment if they had brown skin and similar traditionally attractive, posh asshole designs.
The fact is, the only brown non-Luz characters with traditionally pretty designs are Skara and Cat, and they’re complete background characters, or comic relief in the case of the former. Amelia and the other background white characters get just as much love. If they want to have an issue, have it with the people who didn’t make enough hot main brown characters. But also don’t, because that’s dumb.
I don’t know, as the other anon said, this shit always happens, someone will always be sour that their representation isn’t loved enough. It kind of reminds me of how I used to get salty about certain fandoms not giving female/lesbian characters enough love, and I’d bitterly view them as a bunch of yaoi fangirls.. but honestly, these properties had male authors who would usually give the male characters a higher balance of complex/interesting/endearing traits - and just because my taste means I’ll usually favor girls and lesbians, doesn’t mean those characters are objectively equal or better
