4K77 is actually a fan restoration using scans of the original film, to essentially re-release the original cut of the film as it looked in 1977, but in 4K. It takes a lot of work and they're still working on Empire, But they did finish Jedi (4K83)

4k80 is like 70% done, but they need money for harddrives and to pay people to digitize the reels so they can tinker with em digitally.
4k80 won't be popping up anytime in the next couple years thats why anons are sharing that harmy's despecialized edition. Its best to forget 4k80 exists and just get what you can for now.

Both of these look really impressive. Honestly though, visual quality isn't nearly as important to me as what's in the movie (or not). I'm really glad the 'enhanced' musical number is gone, but that was only the second worst edit. Vader screaming "No!" as he wasted the Emperor was the biggest turd Lucas left on the movie before he gave Disney everything. As if camera work and stage direction alone didn't sell that whole scene for 30 years. Lucas thinks his audience is retarded.

Almost everything shot on 35mm film can be restored to 4K easily - if done right.

And almost every AAA production, even back then, was shot on 35mm film - yes 4K77 is worth it.

Or did someone steel from Lucas' vault and got the original, unedited reels?
I ask because >>1056197 said "original as it can get" and I don't know if he means de-edited to match the original release of if it's the real deal.

They get several film reels in not great condition, then restore them and reconstruct the movies. The "de-edited" movies take a variety of sources like the Blurays and DVDs so you can see the image resolution change between scenes. The 4K ones are all built from legit film reels.

Assuming that Reel 6 is the last part of the film, then probably because 5 whole minutes of it is just the credits, which obviously needs a lot less work than 5 minutes of live action. Expect Reel 2 to take the usual amount of time.
