>>39740589i feel like a lot of the same places that quirky queer women tend to frequent are places that trans ppl are really romanticized, like tumblr and parts of twitter. I also think a lot of the suffering of trans ppl is framed as just being a kind of oppression that one can overcome, and so that cross section of romanticization and a state of inherent victimhood becomes kinda appealing to ppl who might feel a little attached to their feminity and the victimhood that historically came from it as we enter an era with fewer gender disparities that harm women.
I think this also kinda explains terfs, with the difference of romanticizing womens experiences by trans women being seen as more offensive rather than aspirational, especially while transwomen face far worse societal outcomes than cis women--which conflicts with terfs understanding of the world as being the most oppressed. There is a certain kind of power in victimhood, to lose the power of that status could be rly scary. :/
