on reddit and other places on the internet you spend time curatong your posts, never offending, jockeying for social credit, always worrying about building a name and, with it, social authority, for yourself
on 4chan and other anonymous imageboards, unless you namefag/tripfag (oh right, get used to being called fag alot) you have no name, no handle, no reputation to build. Your post is judged based on what's said, not who said it
that said, /lgbt/ is relatively friendly to name and tripcode users but you should really turn it off on other boards unless you have a need to be personally identifiable (for instance if you were a game designer on /tg/ and wished to be findable)
