I partially agree with this. I agree in the sense that the phrase "passing" implies that you are fooling people, puts all the onus on trans people to make their transness invisible to get treated as their expressed gender, and implicitly reifies misogynistic ideas about how women should look.

Buuuuuut, I still deeply need other people to instinctively read me as a woman for the sake of my physical and social dysphoria so even if the concept of "passing" is problematic I can't avoid it's necessity for my mental health.

Part of it yes but not nearly as much as this person says. Mostly only applies to the standards of passing on here where you have to look perfectly cis to equal passing. It is true though that women often look like "cishons" because of the natural variation in peoples's bodies and features. The idea that passing isn't as important as people say is transphobic because passing means safety for a lot of people, and not everybody wants to be a dyed hair genderfuck weirdo. tbdesu I think that kind of attitude is a massive cope.

The point of the movement at its core doesn't have anything to do with misogyny, so no, it isn't. The idea of passing is rooted in self-image and vanity - people want to be desired, they want to be one of the beautiful people, and its a tiny minority of people who are aesthetically pleasing enough to qualify. Passing is literally just a safety measure, I wouldn't give a shit about passing if people didnt harass me when I girlmode, and even then I still barely give a shit. I just want to look presentable and be happy with how I look, passing is secondary. A lot of reddit and twitter trans have a far more wormed view of passing than folk here because they unironically believe in malebrain/femalebrain like that's "real passing" or whatever.
