No shade, but I've yet to see concrete evidence that the vast majority of nbs actually identify some type of way and aren't just in it because of the aesthetic and/or political statement. This type of nb rebels against gender roles by intentionally embodying more and more gendered traits. If they really didn't care about gender roles, they would just dress and style themselves in whatever way naturally comes to them, but the intentionality of growing a beard/gayden stache and putting on bright red lipstick cannot be ignored. I've met nb people that actually gave off the vibe of being androgynous in their soul. Their androgyny doesn't come off as being something they intentionally played up, but as being a natural aspect of their personality. One of them was someone I was friends with in highschool and then ran into years later. They've always naturally stood out amongst others of their same sex, even when they dress in the most neutral clothing (like pants and a t shirt).
Long story short, I feel like people would take nbs a lot more seriously if they stopped trying so hard. If you naturally come off as an androgynous person in your personality and behavior, I can totally understand you identifying as nb. If you come off as someone of your birthsex with quirky accessories or clothing, I can't take you seriously as an nb.
