Penectomy = removal of entire penis, which is obviously more extreme. Other people in this thread are talking about how men are legally free to cut off their own penises and become nullos, which admittedly is true. However, the difference is that there IS NO global, influential male nullo community.
In contrast, THERE IS a global, influential community which advocates for clitoridectomies: Islam. This is why there is a difference in kind between penectomies and clitoridectomies: the latter is a very real issue, with millions of girls forcefully mutilated every year. As part of this humanitarian effort, FGM should not be glorified, for, everyone doing so is guaranteeing the continual suffering of actual girls and women.
Of course, infant male circumcision is also a human rights violation (though quite as debilitating) and should be illegal as well. Media glorifying male circumcision can, arguably, also have the effect of convincing more people to forcefully circumcise infants, so they are also ethically problematic. However, given the much higher severity of debilitation that FGM involves, any media glorifying it is far worse.
>>1636800Is it, really? Are the people with body integrity disorder who blind themselves, or cut off their arms, or otherwise disable themselves, just engaging in body modifications? Such self-mutilation is almost always a result of mental illness: body integrity disorder, depression, borderline personality disorder, etc. If a depressed person comes to us and wants to kill themselves, do we just hand them a gun? Do we take pictures of their corpses and jerk off to them, saying that "it was just their choice"? No. We don't. We encourage these people to get help. Only at long last do we consider the possibility of assisted suicide, and even then, we do NOT glorify it. To do otherwise is unethical in the extreme, just like this entire thread.
