Hm, that's true.
A shortage of something niche often finds one or few people funding the content to fill it. That being said, the recurring complaint I'm seeing is that the quality of projects is falling, which is very much contrary to receiving proper funding.
Perhaps the animators just aren't that capable and their level is becoming apparent, perhaps they're burnt out due to their working on "hard" content all the time, or perhaps the limits of SFM are holding them back.
Whatever the case, it's not slowing down their patreon any time soon.
