Sure, there are some groaner moments and Alfheim would have been better without the forced incest. I think people are more critical of Kirito than they have the right to be, when it comes down to it his powers aren't that great. He's a smart dude who's really good at video games, that's it. If it were today he'd just be those dudes who launch tanks into the air in battlefield or whatever the cool kids are doing these days. He came back from the dead, but half the people in that game were overcoming limitation, nobody cared when Pina sacrificed herself for Silica despite that not being part of her code, but when Kirito goes jesus mode on Heathcliff, everyone has a fuss. The dual blades I really don't care about. As far as OP anime power goes, that's not up there at all, and again, it's a game. The characterization was worse in Alfheim, Asuna used to be a pro but she essentially gave up. She grew a pair later though, and in the most recent arc she's back to being a boss, so I'll let it slide. The harem felt out of place, but again, anime. I also wasn't a fan of all the Berserk references, that seemed a bit pretentious. I'm not saying it's the greatest anime ever made, it clearly is not, but it was basically just fun and overall it's pretty good for something that someone started writing when they were 15.
