>>39479618hmm i kinda agree and disagree on this. i often find his quips and spider-man story writing in general to be genuine laugh out loud funny. but then yeah, it gets overdone a lot. it's become sort of a flanderized part of his character, that he's just cracking jokes constantly. a lot of crossovers do this thing that really annoys me where he walks into a room full of serious people (science guys, avengers, military brass, whatever) during a crisis and makes some lame ass comment and everyone stares at him. and it's like no this guy is supposed to be sort of a genius and a clever sneaky guy, it feels out of character.
i think ultimate spider-man really nailed this aspect though, keeping focus on peter's inner thoughts, having other characters make fun of his worse jokes, and keeping it to where he's pretty much only cracking the quips when he's cocky overconfident or scared out of his shorts and coping with humor.
although you won't have a crush on ultimate peter. his dynamic with MJ is adorable and goals but he's a dweeby little high schooler in that universe so not exactly husbando.
there's a new reboot ultimate universe where he's a dad with a sexy beard though. that's what i'm reading towards now (they're sort of in a continuity but you can start with the new one, and it's only like 20-30 issues so far)
