Had to re-install the game as I or "it" - "had issues".
2.2.1 - was finger error on the user's part - lol.

All good choices, I presume (Same size meal, reassurance that I won't beat her, housework, going out, getting new clothes, complimenting her looks...)
And yes I picked headpat every time I had the option.
This is baffling, I don't remeber this game being impossible.

The game gives you trust points for reaching certain events in the story, and at the end of the intro checks for them together with whether or not there's enough intimacy, Sylvie got pancakes, and she got something to wear.

In typical Ray fashion the code is a complete mess:

"f.love" are your intimacy points, "f.trust" the aforementioned trust points, which are assigned thusly:

>+1 for going out with her the first time
>and -3 for going out alone
>+1 for giving her pancakes
>+1 for buying her a dress
>+1 for telling her she's cute

How people fuck this up constantly is beyond me. On my very first playthrough I simply nailed everything by not being a dick and exploring everything. The game even gives you a hint about how Sylvie enjoyed her time outside the house ...

Wow Rays programming skills look worse than min and I just took one university course programming in C. I really don't get how people let Sylvie die so damn often because it is so easy to avoid the bad ending. Treat her nice = give her food/clothes, don't scare her, go out with her. A slave girl like her probably would really like sweet pankaes and has probably not experienced something like that.

Previously the game checked for her first meal and for the number of rapes. Since those options become unavailable later on (there's only one first meal, and the "Molest" button disappears soon after), the check for the meal and the rape in 2.X have been placed at right before the option to visit the town is unlocked. This results in a quicker game over if you majorly screwed up.

you can still get the good route if you do everything else right though if you do that.
i dont think that value specifically was called by anything but im assuming Ray was gonna have some extra dialogue for it originally.

its understandable if your using a notebook or something to play this, there were some softlocking problems in a earlier version on weaker hardware...

as for the current version its most likely due to poorly optimized code, and a lot of unnecessary layer reloading through macros.

so there is really not much you can do in this case.
the only suggestion i have off the top of my head is make sure you have the game in a unprotected location like your desktop since, at least for me, it ran a bit better there.
id get usually about half a second less black screen time for transitions in my case.

The game counts the number of rapes. Probably an artefact of when Ray was still having a darker route in mind - just look at the art style of his other games, the boy's quite twisted.

What in the everlasting fuck does softlocking have to do with lags? Softlock > game still runs, but you cannot progress anymore. Lags > time doesn't time smoothly, but you can still interact with it.

If there are indeed softlocking problems, then there's some badly racing code in the engine, and I'm sure that by that time enough people would have complained about it in other games as well.

The engine should be able to cache those things, considering that it's already doing software rendering and has a pretty stupid memory footprint.

Yeah, because those do not run in a fucking browser, but in an engine that might actually support 2D hardware rendering, or at the very least caching of image files.

And Ray cannot be bothered with technical aspects as well. Just browse through the script code (data\scenario\) if you're bored enough and get an impression of the mess that his game is. He's simply more a designer than he is an engineer, and it's impressive that for his mediocre understanding the game runs at all - I've seen far worse. But it doesn't make it a top-notch game from a technical side.

true, but for what its worth the previous problem was missed because it only happened on real Idaho potatoes....

i dont remember if that actually ever got fixed "officially" in the end. it might have just been my hotfix and then when the previous translator found a less jerry-rigged solution.

of course this is all about a old version of the engine and game, but i cant say either has become any more potato friendly now

Softlocks are NOT a hardware problem. The hardware usually has some pretty neat features in order to support synchronisation methods between other cores as well as caches. Unless the abstraction library which you're using screws something up there's no one to blame for races but the programmer.

So, in your instance it's a software problem caused by slow hardware, but that still doesn't make it a hardware problem. The hardware runs fine, it's the code that makes assumptions it shouldn't make.

There's no real end to the game, outside of the bad end if you're a dick early on (which a surprising amount of people run into, for some reason). You get to see her be more and more open with you, and enjoy things more and more as she emerges from her shell and starts to trust you, and starts to adore your touch. I'd say it could certainly qualify for heartwarming to some people.

One more update, I narrowed it even more to
others/translate/assets/RJ162718.json.

If you add a comma at the end of line 2365 after:

and another one in line 6346 after:

the game works again and no more black screen, I guess someone forgot to run the json validator.

Started playing like 5 in into the game and everything ok.

Yeah, I get problems with the cafe sometimes at around that point. Sometimes altering her outfit from the one you get by default can get around it, I've found, but it generally isn't frozen, it just takes a few minutes before it works for some reason.

I've read all the instructions inside the english patch, replaced the files, but all I get when starting the game is a black screen.

After some re-reading of the UI readme, I saw a line saying "make sure you have Translator-kun's English Patch first". But isn't this patch part of the download ? the download link is from translator-kun's archive after all, do I need another file ? and if I do, where can I find it ?

It does run it....but the issue is that this is 2.1.1, and the current 2.2.1 translation comes up with a black screen. So it doesn't really solve the current issue with the recent translation.

Let's troubleshoot one step at a time. Re-extract everything from the mega and see if the game runs in the first place. After making sure it works, apply the translation patch.

I've tried the game without the translation patch and it does run perfectly. I can even apply the save file from 2.1.1 to the new version and it still runs. The issue occurs once the translation patch is copied over.

I'm not the same guy, but I've been getting the same issue. Where it black screens 2.2.1 with the translation applied.
Copying everything but the scenario folder got the game booting, but I'm unsure of what issues might arise having omitted the scenario folder. Doing more digging to see if I can pin point the exact issue.

Alright I got it to work. If you apply the translation to 2.1.1 it will change it over to 2.2.1 with all the new additions. For whatever reason I guess for myself and some other people the new translation does not with the official 2.2.1 version
